Restructuring?
Part of it depends on your firm politics. If you think it’s acceptable to you to reach out to other partners for work I’d do that. If you’re unsure then I wouldn’t any chances until you talk to other colleagues and get the lay of the land.
Best things I can think are to be totally on top of a file the minute you get it so you build up a bit of a credit when things get slow. As soon as you get the file work it up to every last detail. Predicting when the work comes can be next to impossible but some clients will assign cases on a rotating basis between the firms. If you get the work directly from a partner, maybe you can check to see in casual convo with them like “oh yeah it’s great working on this new case but it seems like it came out of the blue. Do they follow a schedule in assigning cases?”
If the work is just coming straight to you with no oversight or it’s your client I’d reach out and simply ask for the opportunity to handle more work (politics permitting of course)
I hope that helps in some small way but trust me the feast and famine thing is totally normal.
