I have been reading a few articles talking about how FAANG isn’t as lavish as it used to be. My first question is if that is true? If it is true, my second question is what companies out there have the pay, benefits, and perks like FAANG? My last question is if it is as difficult to get into those companies? ?? People, stop hesitating to ask for an hour or two off!! Companies will literally drop us like a hot potato if need be
This ☝🏼!!!
Your third month and you're afraid to ask off for an hour or two?
Dude, I took a 5 MONTH leave of absence my first year to hike the PCT. Just do it
That's awesome! Would love to hear about your experience doing the pct

I think you can ask to take off - it shouldn’t be an issue! It’s your third month, so that’s totally fine and plus, this was a pre-planned event before you switched jobs. You’ll be fine!
I work for a Publicis agency too. So this is good to hear, thank you!

🙄 That’s what “doctor appointments” are for.
Make it physical therapy then. I legit have physical therapy twice a week for a small knee issue and have had these appointments for months now.

If you are so worried, why don't you just come in an hour or two early.
I started a new job in mid November and have already taken days off for random stuff and booked a whole week off for March. If they don’t respect that people have lives outside of their jobs then they’re not a great company to work for.
No big deal in my mind. It’s not like you’re taking a week off, and you can mention it’s something you planned before getting hired if you really feel the need to explain yourself.
If you’re worried about asking for time off with an unlimited PTO policy you may want to consider a company with better culture, but I don’t see to many companies worrying about a few hours.
Wait. Do you understand what “unlimited PTO” means?
This makes me sad that this is even a question.
You have colleagues that would take the whole day off, and maybe the next day too, under the same circumstances - that would be sus.
If I had been at the agency longer, I wouldn’t be questioning it at all. I would have put in for the day of and the the day after the concert. But being new (and now down 2 people on the team) I feel bad requesting off.
What concert?

2 hours? Lol. That's nothing. If you're nervous just say you have a doc appt or something
Honesty is the way to go. Most managers should have zero issue with someone coming to them requesting time off, even for entertainment. The worst that can happen is that you will be told no. However, you came to your manager and asked, this is opens a doorway for further communication and understanding of expectations. Nobody will fault you for buying concert tickets. Lying however is a way to lose trust super fast. Don't try and make anything up or be sneaky about anything. 3 months into a company is a pretty reasonable length of time before requesting your first day to cut out early. Again, worst thing that can happen is you get a "no"

Im joining a new firm around March / April. I have a 10-day trip to spain planned in June (planned before getting the new job). Would it be too soon lol
I would ask about something like that before you start. The last time I had a vacation planned before starting a new job I told them about it and go it pre-approved when I was accepting the offer.
Go for it
I did! Leaving 2hrs early and taking the whole next day off 🥳
