I need some advice.

I have been a paralegal for 5 years and I been with this firm over a year. I just got demoted and my pay has been reduced by so much. Is there any advice of what I can do.

Update your resume and walk asap.

Time for a new job.

I'm petty so if I could afford it I'd quit on the spot. If not, polish your resume and start applying.

like

I don't see what pettiness has to do with it, but I second you 100 percent.

like

Demotion and pay cut (which in and of itself is bulls--t) sends a message - it wouldn't be surprising if you are ultimately terminated. You need to beat them to the punch by getting the hell out.

You have an advantage because you are currently employed. You have five years of experience. So start looking. Update your resume and professional portfolio. Start responding to employment announcements. Maintain contact with your references and network. Attend interviews. If a job offer appeals, consider accepting it.

I sense you have been putting up with plenty of nonsense in that firm for the past year. You deserve better. So leave, for something good, of course, ASAP. Best of luck with your job search.

Thank you so much for your advice. I truly appreciate it

Time to go!!!!

Absolutely leave NOW. NO notice either, just quit on the spot when u have a new job.

like

Leave and fast.

like

Did they share why you were demoted?

smart

Nah, they gave you a reason. Either way, your only options are to accept it or quit.

like

What position did you get demoted to and what was the reasoning they gave you? Did others also get demoted? Wondering if it’s a reclassification based on years of experience or if it’s performance related.

like

Find a new job. It isn't worth your energy or time.

like

I would start looking for a new job.

like

They are quite likely moving you out of the firm - so do yourself a huge favor and apply for a different firm.

like

Thank you, thankfully I got hired at another firm. So I’m glad to be leaving.

3 YOE in Marketing through internships in college, followed by 2 years Financial Operations/Data Tools full-time. I got an offer for $75K at TekSystems for a Market Analyst role. I gave them a range of $70-75K, so they gave the max. But I am questioning asking for a bit more given insurance is apparently on the higher-end and I want to ensure I didn't low-ball myself.

Just to note, this is about a 25% increase compared to what I am currently making.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Has anyone dealt with a lack of praise from attorneys? I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime. Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.
