I recently moved from a Talent Acquisition role to Talent Management and Development. I am early in my career (26) I have my MBA and SHRM-CP but am wondering what else I can do to become more knowledgeable in this new space and HR in general. I have almost 3 years experience in HR now. Any recommendations?

Congrats! You are in the exciting space! Networking would be your best best, talking to as many experts as possible. Keep updated on all the research etc for example, talent strategy group and josh bersin. Attend workshops and conferences. And most importantly, listen to your business leaders and what problems they need to solve and assess and develop talent accordingly. Best of luck!!

Googling Josh Bersin …

Being open to learn. HR Tok is super informative; there are a lot of differences between Talent Development in Staffing and in corporate. There is also a ton of opportunity to innovate in that space.

Is there anyone specifically on HR Tok that you'd recommend checking out?

Could try for a lateral move! Maybe network more and get more hands on leadership experience

Check out josh bersin academy. Best place for what you’re looking for!

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?

I need to learn how to say no, but how do you ladies deal saying no to friends when they ask for a favor you don’t want to do? My friend constantly asks me to watch her dog. She was always asking last minute and id use the excuse of being busy. She just sent me her planned trips through the end of the year and asked if I’m available any of the weeks / weekends. I don’t have plans yet for most of those weekends but don’t want to commit to dog sitting and then saying no to plans.

What is your companies paid parental leave benefit/policy? Currently offer 12 weeks fully paid for any new parent and thinking about adding additional time.

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Any strategies or resources you could recommend for getting rid of the dreaded annual performance review (or at least lessening the dread) and creating a more effective year round performance feedback system? Our review is currently tied to our end of year bonuses and merit increases, so not sure I could get rid of it entirely. This would be for hourly and management employees, all working on-site.

I’m interviewing for a Talent Acquisition internship at a large tech company (~5,000) and I’m feeling a bit iffy about the position. My initial impression was that it involved front-end recruitment, interviews, sourcing but it seems to be more back-end, operations & systems oriented. The job desc. is vague and I believe Talent Acquisition Operations Intern is more fitting since it’s more of a technical position - is this a big difference & will the TA intern look less technical on my resume?
