Yes, and the manager did come from similar places that the group had been before, so you would think that would have made things go smoother, didn’t though. Not sure what happened between that and them getting into management. As for how to handle, I’d just break it down and one situation at a time.
Well, that’s the thing when someone moves into leadership. They kind of stop working on their career development and work on their leadership skills. So instead of keeping up on trends or changes in the industry, they’re busy learning about how to be more effective leader so they quickly fall behind in the field itself so yeah, I think that’s pretty common
I've had very few managers who seemed to have a clue what I do, or really take any interest. They assume that if you are at your desk, you are working (hence why so many managers don't like their staff working from home I reckon). I just had to get on with it and make many decisions myself, just asking my manager strategic questions to make them feel like they were still needed (otherwise you get in trouble for not keeping them informed/deferring to them, despite knowing they have no idea what you are talking about), or go them with the solution already.
