In a recent background check I completed I was asked to provide justification for any gaps 6 months or longer. If you’re staying at the same company though and just taking unpaid leave this might be a non issue.

Depends on if you plan on returning to your current job or just quitting and figuring it out later.
LOA/Sabbaticals aren’t that uncommon, just check your companies policies.
If you quit with no plan to return, you’ll probably have to explain why.
It's a gap, but gaps are becoming quite normal and acceptable these days.
Look into a Leave of Absence from your current company rather than resigning. Six months might be longer than they're willing to go for, but you could take leave and then resign if you weren't ready to come back. While you're on LOA you're still employed, so there would not be as long of a gap on your resume.
