I would focus on being there longer, knowing how everything works, and assuming you’ve been doing an outstanding job, bring that up too. Are there many shops in your area? Some places will always pay more for new hires instead of paying the people already there more.
If they were calling you after you left, then you definitely are needed in their eyes, especially with being short-staffed. 100% worth the conversation about a raise because lead techs should be making more than 2 cents extra over the regular.
Demand a raise.
Everybody has budget issues. Demand a raise and if they refuse then it's on them when you leave.
I wouldn’t necessarily reference the job posting (unless your manager pushes back) but say “I’ve been here (this long) and my responsibilities have changed since my last major raise, I’m Now doing x-y-z and based on the market rate i believe I should be making (this much)” and see what the manager can do about it.
Don't, write an email requesting a raise and list the reasons why you deserve a raise. Never point out that someone lower than you is making the same or more, it looks pretty, but show your value.
Talk to your boss/manager or HR - come armed with facts, it's great you know what other people make, but unless you have proof of it - that doesn't stand.
I would show them the job posting, discuss your performance, how you add value at the business, highlight why you want to stay; and position it as pay equity and fairness; you're simply asking to be paid a fair market wage for the work you do.
This is when you would highlight the job posting you found, do some research on what your role and experience get's paid in your local market, and say I was $XX/hr (or annually) - this is what the market pays.
It should be a discussion where you both show how you contribute the business and want to stay (performance) - this makes an employer most likely to invest in you with a raise.
