I’d be interested in hearing in any non-traditional moves from law to private equity. Any good stories or advice?

AWS Professional Services Principal level salary? I think it’s level 7. I gave an expected range of $325-350k. I’m at $250 now. Was I in the right ballpark? Or did I undersell myself.

Additional Posts in Law Exit Opportunities

Just gave notice to my managing partner. I have no job lined up. I have no plan. I have no idea what the next step for me is. But I’m feeling so relieved and can’t wait to see what’s next in store for me. I know it won’t be at a law firm.

I’m a jr litigation associate with many years of tech work pre law school. A former coworker has offered to submit my resume for a legal role at her company (also tech) basically doing contract and privacy work as well as other tasks relevant to my former work life. My current resume is full of litigation experience from law school, since my resume is written for applying to lit positions. On the one hand, it bolsters my legal experience. On the other, it’s not relevant to this role. Do I cut?

If you’ve decided you just don’t like practicing law, especially after several jobs, what have you done to leave? Do you feel compelled to use your JD in some way because, “well, I already got it”? Or are you okay moving in an entirely new direction?
I’m thinking of starting a new business unrelated to law. The JD and practice experience will obviously come in handy with typical business management issues like negotiating and enforcing contracts, basic HR issues, etc. (Cont. in comments)

Leaving law and buying a Business? I’ve been at this for about seven years now. I’ve moved positions three or four times, including clerking, small town practice, and regional mid-sized firms. My practice has been general with litigation emphasis. Looking to make an exit through buying a business. Not a passion project business, just good revenue with the option to put managers in place later on for the day to day. Buy free time and opportunity, basically. Anyone else do(ing) something similar?

Has anyone made the transition from non-profit and small firm practice to federal government, big law, in-house? I’m a special education parent attorney at a small firm and I’ve spent my legal career in the education and juvenile areas of the law working for 2 non-profits before ending up at the firm. However, I’m just exhausted, unmotivated, and and looking for a change. At this point (6.5 yrs of practice), is that type of transition even possible or am I stuck due to the practice area?
