I'm a new associate doing SOC audit, but would like to transition to FDD & TAS in 1-2 years at either a Big 4 or any mid-tier PA firm or consulting firm, while also wanna move to a HCOL city. How can I maximize my chance of transitioning over? What skills/experience to get while at my current role?

I’m a new big 4 audit associate is it better to aim for high performer or average performer? Is it worth it to be high performer or should I remain average? What if I want to switch to a different service like in the future, can I still do so with average reviews? Will other firms know my rating if I apply elsewhere?

Intl Tax folks, how long did it take before you were confident in your role? I've worked for the past 3 years in a practice that is heavily consulting based (inbound and outbound structuring) and I feel like I'm only just starting to understand the foundational concepts (where I can explain them clearly to clients) and offering a shred of value. Then I'll have calls where partners discuss complex tax, legal, treasury and other related concepts that all go over my head.. it becomes overwhelming

Looking for advice. ~1 month ago I started formally complaining to HR about some toxic partners, uncompetitive comp, and excessive work load. There has been a lot of TO in the last 12 months and I have been interviewing elsewhere. On Friday I was given a surprise compensation adjustment from $105 to $120 and it’s been complement city for the last few weeks. Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?
