I just recently left big 4 in July to pursue a role at a fintech company. It seemed great during the interview but once I got here it was very unorganized, not clear which team I would support, etc. Long story short, I was told we would have a hybrid work schedule and we are now required to go in-office full time 5 days a week and there have been a ton of layoffs recently. Should I stick it out or look for something else even though I’ve only been here 2 months?
Currently have 2.5 yrs of audit experience (1.5 with pwc) thinking to move to another big 4 as a senior? (Deloitte) (pwc is a bit wishy washy about my promotion timeline) or jump to industry? What roles in industry is best for career growth?
Big 4 -> slalom. Do I have to tell my current employer where I'm exiting to? Legally do they consider Slalom as a competitor, even though they are smaller? Cont'd
People that’ve switched from Big 4 to industry or vice versa, could you share the reason for your switch, and if you regret the move? And which level were you when you made the change?
Boomerangs - Did you get a raise when you boomeranged back to your old big 4 firm? If so, how much? Tips to negotiate.
Are there any Big 4 or middle market firms that have national tax/policy (WNTS, NTS, etc.) practices that won’t work you to death?
Interviewing at McKinsey from a big 4 consulting firm - currently an engagement manager interviewing for an engagement manager role on the partner track - comp at big 4 is currently $165k base, what’s a reasonable amount to ask for at mck? I got an Ivy League exec mba in 2020 as well, which hasn’t yet been reflected in my big 4 comp (we mostly didn’t do raises because of covid last year). Trying to understand how much higher mck might be willing to go?
Pros/cons of going from a big 4 firm to a national, regional or advisory specific firm at a higher level? Is it worth it?
Question for BCG fish regarding what level to target. What are the levels and associated years at each level? I’m wanting to come in at the consultant level with 3.5 YOE + an industry relevant masters. Majority of my experience is B4 strategy consulting , then shifting industry strategy for the last year. Boston Consulting Group
After really bad experiences at ACN, I'm sooooo excited to accept an offer to another firm. From S&C Consultant to Manager in Big 4. From 100k to 160k. I, and HUNDREDS of others, remember how we were treated on the call center work. How you burned us at year end then paid out bonuses to EVERYONE in 2021, even new joiners who weren't with the firm in 2020 (much less saving your a$$es on call centers contracts). Oh, and not to mention laying off so many people I personally invested in (contd)
Said my self good morning today, as I got to know that partner needs to invest at biggest, I totally understand by the naming convention that yes typically a partner need to pay and have seen example at huge attorney and practice firms partners investing, but at big 4 seriously? Like how huge the amount is and what is meant by the term salaried partner? Do they invest as well? Please enlighten me here, curious to know have been at pwc for a year and will now shift to another big4.
Reason to give for move between big 4?
What are the ledger growth expectations (dollars or %) at your firm this year? I’m finishing the first year as a new tax partner (not B4). Started with 1.9million ledger and grew to 2.7million with pipeline worked from past years that turned to wins. The pandemic hasn’t allowed much time or travel to refill the pipeline. Now there’s pressure to add 500k and grow to 3.2million by end of 2nd year. Feels like a big number for a second year tax partner.
Mulling over an offer. Is work at MBB way more work / significantly more intense than Big 4? I feel like I have a good brand/rep at EY; not sure if effort to rebuild all of that at MBB is worth it?
What’s the best travel policy by firm? We have nothing but hoping to be upgraded... Flying coast to coast on economy every week is exhausting... I assume MBB allows first class flights. Big 4?
How do you go about disclosing it to your partner/team if you’re jumping ship from one b4 to another? Don’t want to burn bridges
Does Alaska Airlines have a status challenge? Need to fly with them for a few weeks - no other flight options.
What is the typical lag time between start date and offer at MBB as an experienced hire? I was told to expect a start date in a year during off cycle recruiting. Is this normal?
I have constant anxiety over being laid off or fired. To the point that I’m starting to feel paranoid, reading into everything around me. I need some tips on how to deal with this as it’s crushing me.
Need advice: baby is 8 months. We started her in daycare at 6 months. Liked the daycare but concerned because not all caregivers were vaccinated. Liked daycare overall because we wanted to not manage anyone, socialization, etc. We got more nervous with Covid as daycare did not mandate after FDA approval and other mandates came out. We found a nanny share and informed the daycare we are pulling her out - the director calls me and says the remaining teachers have received the 1st dose. Cont.
Mid-career/M level fishes: suggestion on how to nip in bud when project is feeling beyond your grasp from a content/SME-wise? As a M, it’s my role to clarify, delegate and direct to rest if team. My SM is more experienced in the technical content and is doing more of the management activities that I feel should be doing. I’m feeling increasingly lost. Doesn’t help my key junior resources exited + PTO on what ended up being a critical content week.
Working an expo / benefits fair: what have you done that has worked in getting people to your table, and peaking their interest in an appointment? (Details continued in post)

I’m looking if a certain dentist accepts my dental via EY’s Better You “Find a network provider”. If the dentist doesn’t show up, that that mean the dentist doesn’t take insurance or that insurance doesn’t work with that dentist? Meaning if I wanted to ask if my dental insurance would be accepted, would I first ask the dentist in question or get on a call with my insurance provider?
Fixed income Credit analyst in boston. Make 60k +15k bonus. Sitting for level 3 cfa in June and have my CAIA designation. 10 vaca days/ year. Am I getting screwed?
This may be an odd one. I have an actuarial background and am an investment consultant for pension plans. No MBA. Any suggestions on how to make my way into PE?
Lately, for some reason, I feel like I’ve really hit a wall. I feel no motivation to do anything and constantly procrastinate until the last minute to work on an assignment. Then, I’d stress about doing a bad job and getting fired. This is a vicious cycle and I know that I should seek counseling. But beyond that, what else should I do? Has anyone experienced this before, and how did you get out of this cycle?
Any one from HCL SAP practice here. Do They have implementation projects in HANA? What is flexi basket component in ctc? Can we ask for entire amount in our salary?
Question about sick time. My firm gives 7 days of sick time off that expire at the end of the calendar year. I’d like to take advantage of this time as a supplement to my 8 days of PTO left in this calendar year. How do you all take advantage of your sick time day allocation?
I can’t tell if I’m being too sensitive or my seniors are really passive aggressive towards me all the time. Like I can’t lash out at micro-aggression, what am I supposed to say? Treat me the same way as you treat the other staff? My working environment has taken a toll on my mental health and my desire to stay in audit. And idk if it’s my fault or I’m just in a really toxic environment. I haven’t really been on other teams.
I am clear-eyed and ready. I am filled with vigor and determination. I have had my mettle tested and have overcome challenge after challenge. I have studied my materials and have trained my mind stronger than ever. I carry conviction in my heart and a smile on my face. Yes, I am prepared to get rejected by MBB once again.
