Get some experience and join KPMG Ignition. They have a tax group that does exactly that. No need to wait 3-5 years. Send me a message if you want more info.
Start applying. Should be able to do it within 6-12 months rather than 3-5 years
Since I’m so new to tax in general I assumed I would need to take a few years to build up my knowledge in the nitty gritty before moving onto a position like that. Thoughts ?
Most people doing tax technology dont come from any tax background at all you would be surprised! But yes look into kpmg ignition
I can see myself traveling, conducting training, and working with teams to develop and implement emerging technology to improve jobs, but I know i need to spend the next few years really developing my foundation in the job before I can transition into that kind of role. Should I be worried that if I share this interest with supervisors they won’t take it well knowing I don’t want to move up the traditional ladder?
What EY1 said. I know there’s plenty of tax technology opportunities and groups within PwC...and there are ppl in my tax group that spend time on both compliance and tech. As long as you put time into learning the technology, I don’t see why your supervisors would have a problem.
It might be harder at BDO though I guess if you guys don’t have the resources. Every firm is different, but seems like Big 4 is really pushing technology these days. They can’t seem to shut up about it at PwC.
EY has a Tax Technology & Transformation group that does stuff like that, and I work closely with them on one of my engagements. I know someone who recently switched over from tax to it. Not sure what BDO has, but if there’s something like that, then I think you just need to talk to the right person. Speak up. It shouldn’t take 3-5 years. 6-12 months seems reasonable!
