You'll be fine, just either need to get a little lucky or go into an FP&A role that is more of an accounting/finance hybrid. Once you're in, jumping to FP&A at other companies is pretty easy.
Now is definitely the time to leave, where you have B4 experience but you're young enough that they're willing to train you. I also left at 3 years in B4.
Just be aware you'll lose out to people who already have finance experience. We just turned down someone in B4 audit in favor of someone who was in FP&A. But we also extended an offer to a B4 auditor last year, because for that specific role, we were okay hiring someone who we'd have to train.
Depends on if your experience is relevant to FP&A. In regards to audit, most of the time it’s not so it will be extremely difficult to pivot unless you have connections. You’d have to start from scratch for an entry level position which would probably be a pay cut from what you’re making now.
Left EY one month shy on senior promotion for a Treasury role doing Project Finance work at a Fortune 500. Was able to get 120k base, bonus, sign bonus, and experience that could get me into a bank. The opportunities are out there so don’t sell yourself short
Searched LinkedIn for months and interviewed with 20-40 different places before getting the opportunity. I interviewed for multiple positions with the same company and was offered in the 90-105k range until I was introduced to their Treasury team through a recruiter.
