Rising Star
There is a heavy amount of staff aug at Capco. It’s just the truth. There are some good opportunities at banks (within the staff aug). Perhaps some of the cyber people can comment here.
I'm part of Capco's cyber practice and we are definitely growing like crazy. We have a number of great projects in the pipeline that are definitely not staff aug. There are a few imperfect projects here and there, but that happens everywhere.
While you may be losing "prestige" or whatever, the great thing about our team is that we report directly to senior clients and it's an awesome opportunity to grow your consulting skillet. You get to take on a lot of responsibility and are rewarded for doing so. We have a ton of training and certification opportunities and leadership is very supportive across the board. We're a tight knit team and value everyone's contribution.
That all being said, it is a new practice. I looked at it like joining a mini startup - there's a lot of work to be done, but it's exciting and there's something for everyone.
Feel free to DM me, I'd be happy to connect and answer your Q's!
Aside from staff aug work, does anyone have insight into the cybersecurity practice at Capco? What kind of work do they actually do?
Ah that’s my concern, I have absolutely no interested in anything remotely related to staff aug. From my interviews it seems they would accommodate my interests but my concern is if that’s just lip service :/
Capco is staff aug. If you're ok with basically doing the work of an FTE, likely reporting directly to an FTE, than you'll be fine.
If you want jump in jump out projects, Capco is not the place for you.
The biggest benefit of Capco is it's mostly like working in industry, but with the ability to fairly easily leave and higher comp.

How many YOE?
About 1
Don’t mean to hijack your question. How hard was it for you to search for roles with about 1 YOE? I’m considering switching at my 1 yr as well but unsure how it will pan out given the little experience I’ll have

Are you into azure or AWS?
What region
Not decided yet but probably relatively high COL
I don’t know if you made your decision yet, but capco isn’t known for their cyber security practice. In fact it’s under 3 years old. It’s growing significantly and the projects I’ve seen are actual projects.
That being said, capco will not hesitate to staff a consultant on a staff aug project if the pipeline is thin and long term projects for them are much more preferable than short ones. On average people can be on a project their for a year.
Capco does have a heavy amount of staff aug work, but so do most big 4/Accenture as well. You can’t avoid it if you stay in consulting.
May as well just accept it and use them as opportunities to improve your skills and build solid relationships in the industry.
It seems like capco is a significant pay bump for you, but if you move over to another big 4/Accenture you’ll probably find an even bigger one at the consultant level. But capco is hiring and the larger firms aren’t.
Capco isn’t a horrible option, but you’ll sacrifice prestige outside of FS. But you’ll also get a significant pay bump. I personally would go for it.
