Hello All - I’m currently a SM (Tech Consulting) in a B4 and on the path to P. I’m trying to choose between below -
1. Stay with current firm and wait to be P(May take a year or two), though I’m not sure if it is worth it.
2. Offer for a Alliance Director role in Tech Company with competitive pay. Compensation is highly competitive + RSU.
3. Offer from a smaller boutique consultancy at a comparative higher designation with better WLB and Slightly higher compensation.

I’d say that it comes down to how much you value WLB. Things don’t get easier when you make P (from what I’ve seen and observed), and may actually get tougher. Are you willing to make that sacrifice and continue making the sacrifice for the next 10+ years? You probably won’t get to the B4 partner comp in either of your other 2 options, but I would assume you’d get better WLB and very solid pay in both scenarios. Is the comp enough to do what you want to do and does the increased WLB account for the “extras” you could get with the B4 partner comp?

Go to tech as a Principal

Partner comp would likely be better than alliance director role in addition to the rank/title for its perceived value too. But a bird in hand as they say - you don't know if you'd make partner or not until you do.

Waiting for more…

Option 2 if you value balance.
