Hi guys,
Need help,I am joining VMware Banglore on 27th June. During interview I told them I need wfh. They said it wil be wfh this entire year. Only mistake I did was i didn't permanent wfh. I took for granted like once I join i can opt for it ( as my VMware friends had said we can opt for it)
Now the offices have started, I am scared if they call me to office , I have 14months son, not willing to leave him n go for office.
So if I ask manager to give me permanent wfh will they agree ?

death in the family is always a good one
All I've ever had to say was this:
"I've had some personal stuff come up that requires my attention. I'll be out of the office from x to x. I'll be able to check my email periodically, but will not be immediately available to respond. I'd be happy to fill in someone and get them up to speed to act on my behalf in case of emergency where immediacy is needed. Sorry for any inconvenience."
Yeah. No death. I actually know someone who pulled that, didn't get the job and then family member actually died. It was just the worst. I strongly advise PTO.
Is the risk worth the reward? Buy the ticket, take the ride!
You call in sick from the plane - I've done it. They can't do anything about sick
@FCB3 I'm afraid leaving my team in a crunch for an interview is pretty callous, like I'm selfishly throwing my team under the bus. Which I suppose I am, but I like my job and my team. If this opportunity wasn't such a wild step up for me, I wouldn't be entertaining it. At the same time, faking something horrible is even more rude if they find out.
Is there any way of going about this without souring relationships with the people I work with and care about?
Pretend your sick. If they want a note, go to the doctor for real and get one. No one is going to split hairs on the timing covered by the note.
Family emergency. Been there, done that! "My grandpa got sick and was rushed to the hospital, but he's doing better now"
I think the fact that you care so much about your team says so much. Good for you and I bet you'll land this job. But I wouldn't jeopardize your current gig.
3 days is also a lot for the new agency to ask. 3 day offsite to interview? Can you skype any of these folks as part of the interview process?
I would go the sudden sickness or oral surgery (good one!) or general family emergency (not death.)
When I was a junior my mom needed sudden surgery and my dad needed my support. He was a wreck! I had to go for 4 days, NY to Philadelphia. I told them two days before. It was real and this real life stuff pops up.
Offer to check in at night on email, etc.
The fact is people interview and they have to move on to new jobs. It's the only way to grow and make more money in most cases. If you handle it well, there won't be any bad feelings.
Good luck OP!!!
@Huge1 that sucks as someone with back problems I hate people using that as fake. Also if you say you will work from home you actually have to be there and work if not you have to take an official sick day 😡
💪🎉🎊🎈
Be honest with them and tell him the truth and don't look to come back the next day
Yeah, seriously it's your time, don't sweat it.family emergency is a good cover if you feel you need too, because well it is an emergency it's your dream job that could slip away
Sick day
PTO is a joke to keep us all happy while signing the contracts but useless once you are in. Let them fire you and make other agency value u.
Pull the trigger and make the jump
Explosive diarrhea.
@freelanceogilvymather Of course i don't need to explain myself, but we're in a crunch period and a junior employee just taking off on vacation right now would be a pretty brash, disrespectful move. I can already see the fishbowl post.
I need a job in any of your agencies. We don't always get weekends off imagine the vacation time.
See you there @OP
@AAE1 then that would mean either you're applying to a creative position or OP decided to go into account management...
Lol does the position matter Grey? Not sure it's relevant to the posting
