How are you developing client relationships when in-person networking is out?

I'm used to hanging out with my clients frequently, grabbing coffee, stopping by the office, etc. Zoom/Hangouts meetings just feel really awkward and it's difficult switching from business development which was 90% IRL to nearly all online... Especially when I run a 1-person shop.

Has anyone seen any unique places to find UX portfolios or post jobs other than the usual suspects?
Some UX Slack channels were doing well for a while but I definitely don’t see as much traction there. Meetups obviously came and went. Even the portfolio sites like Dribbble and Behance don’t seem that same.

I'm having difficulties connecting with my team over Zoom, and I'm feeling lonely. Anyone else?

Zoom meetings have been fantastic. I can highly recommend my home group SOS. 7:30 daily. Great way to get grounded as you start your day.

As things start to open up fully, some of my institutional clients are sending notices that we are expected to do X activity over zoom from here on out (things we used to do in person). Clearly it’s a cost cutting measure. Anyone else feel like filing for telephonic appearance so the insurance company can save a buck isn’t going to sit well with judges who prefer in person attendance? Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Instead, they have decided to pursue program manager or cloud consultant roles, which they feel might have a lower barrier to entry from an assessment standpoint. Not sure if the bowl agrees but would like to get your thoughts, thanks!

So I recently got a job offer on the brand side, as a marketing specialist in Canada for a reputable company likes of Loblaws, Shell, Sobeys, Canadian Tire. The role encompasses alot more than just branding, includes ux research and was wondering how much is a good overall package for this excluding insurance benefits.

Any tips on how to deal with this…my entire team was let go today (was 5, now just me). We functioned as the Marketing team for 4 brands and primarily focused on product launches and sustaining social media content. My plan moving forward is to only focus on the top revenue driving product launches for now and say “no” to basically everything else. Would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice.
