I’m seeing IP boutique NY firms paying $140k for third year associate roles. The work itself seems vastly more interesting than the standard big law shop but how do people justify the pay cut? I doubt it’s a lifestyle trade. Do these firms commonly offer associates origination/fee based incentives or is it truly salary + a 10-20% bonus?

I work through a contractor, and was hired 2yrs ago to be a Systems Test Engineer II. They decided last minute to make me a Software Content Manager, but kept my title as is since it was supposed to be a 6mo rotation. I’m still an SCM, and am taking on leadership roles in the group. I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me.
