[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?
I’ve been trying to get into the top tier Associate Product Marketing Manager position Google for some time now for just an interview and I feel like business majors somehow have such a stronger chance in getting interviewed especially my business school and I feel really discouraged as an Econ Major and I have a lot of marketing experience that I’ve built over the years. Are there any non-business majors in the tech realm in non technical positions at Google that can advise me?

Sorry friend. Our recruiting system is pretty broken and most of the people in it are unqualified. It’s a big reason you see agencies pop up, do amazing work and then be borderline out of business in 5 years.
I think an agency that treats you that way is probably not a great agency, so just leave it be and find a place that treats you better.
Shout out to Erika Ayres who used to recruit for 72 NY. Never hired me, but was the most respectful and smart recruiter I ever worked with.
I can relate. I would also like to add I am sick of prospective employers soliciting free work under the guise of interview "homework" (esp. when we all have online portfolios that demonstrate our skills).
Are dentists asked to do free root canals? Are accountants asked to do free tax returns? It's absurd.
With so many creatives laid off, these predatory requests are going to become more common. What's worse, many will also come with a NDA, giving the company ownership of the creative properties we produce.
It's in all of our best interests to collectively say NO to free work requests and NDAs that relinquish our rights --- especially during a pandemic when companies are desperate for work but don't have the budget to pay for it.
Welcome to the agency world... a selfish, self centered organization that looks out only for no.1. Now with layoffs everywhere you and I are way off their radar.....as they worry about themselves and shore up their defenses... who can blame them....
Agree almost completely. But you call it an organization. It’s just other really self centered creatives, managers, people in leadership positions who have no clue, and worst of all clueless unqualified HR people. We all need to treat each other better. It’s a people problem.
Kessles Kramer used to send you a Tshirt saying “KK was too stupid to hire me” if you didn’t make the cut. It’s details like that that make you hard to hate them even if they don’t hire you. I wish more places had the confidence to put some kind of thoughtful “thanks but no thanks” as part of their recruitment policies. It would help with the “no” and would eliminate the crushing “maybe” that a non-reply puts on loop in your mind
I feel you. This might not solve your problem, but it is at least another tool that can help:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vesjdmp8AXqmv6CBxMQ4qvANWgla33r9QpWSpgvoc-I/edit?usp=sharing
The idea is that it is maintained by the people who use it, so use it all you want, but please, if you have a contact to add, please do so.
I am sorry that you are feeling ignored in all aspects of your life. It’s hard enough to deal with professional ghosting, but to feel invisible to friends is even harder. I urge you to reach out to friends, ask them how they’re doing and say you really want to reconnect. Ask if they’re up for it. Many are falling into hermit status while others are using the time to kickstart friendships. Maybe give them one last chance.
As for not hearing about your job interviews, make one last effort if you are really interested. And make it memorable. Forget the recruiter or CCO, get in touch with the person who would be your boss. The CD?
Thank you for your nice words!
It’s a very shitty feeling to be ghosted but there’s no so much I can do. Regarding friendship, I’ve so very good ones that are like brothers to me. Just pissed at some who have disappeared. Anyway, there’s no point to focus on the past.
It’s a product of time efficiency. I’ve seen people email me, then ghost me then a year later that same person come through with a legitimate job. The point is stay on their radar and trust them to have you on theirs. It might seem like a one-sided relationship... and sometimes it is, but they’re swamped and bad manners and time constraints are a razors edge away from one another, in this business.
