Can speak for Deloitte - they have what they call target schools. That just means it’s a school they will recruit from. For each university that Deloitte recruits from, there will be a few recruiters assigned but then about 20-30 or so practitioners, almost always alum, that coordinate and run all of the recruiting processes alongside the couple recruiters. There is always a Partner that ultimately oversees everything and will make final decisions on who to hire after all the interviews and everything. They do this as what’s called a ‘firm initiative’ - just extra work above and beyond their projects that gets them brownie points for Year End.
Usually there is undergrad recruiting - those being hired as an analyst - and then MBA, other Masters programs, and I’d guess PhD, JD as well where they’re hired in as C, SC, mmaayybe M but only if they also have like 5+ YOE as well. If someone goes straight through from undergrad to JD or PhD highest they’d be hired at is SC.
LEK does quite a bit of advanced degree recruiting esp for life sciences practice
I1 - Personally, I couldn’t care much for prestige. Sure comp is slightly less but I still make over quarter million. My goal is to have a balanced life - a job that can deliver value, to be active with family to spend more time with my kids - don’t be a weekend dad, to get healthy and stay fit, and spend time on hobbies. Given all this, for me, it outweighs social prestige and a higher pay.
Respectfully, if you're the president of the consulting club as you say, don't you have any contacts at non MBB firms so you can verify with them directly? If there are specific firms that are gaps in your contacts, which ones?
Thank you so much for this insight BCG 1! Exactly what I was looking for
AD here.
Reach out to ADs at these firms - they should know the right contact or go through your business school peers to connect to the right person. If you're at Harvard you should have many resources at your disposal you can leverage before cold emailing.
Thanks! HBS/College resources are completely - almost impressively - siloed from us. We'll try cold outreach to ADs instead of recruiters to see if it’s better.
Find club alums
Befriend someone at the business school and get the recruiter contacts, then throw the PhD apps in during the business school cycle and hope for the best. Takes a ton of hustling but can be done
Thanks for this advice!
Bain has an AD internship program. As someone else said, reach out to folks at target firms who have ADs and chat- they’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
