We usually wait until the main matters are closed to slowly disengage with a firm, unless they mess up very significantly. Even then we usually just move the one case to another firm and then fade out the other cases when we can (provided it’s not the same group that messed up), otherwise it can be too expensive to have to get another firm up to speed on multiple cases.
But completely losing confidence in the firm, I’ve only see it done once. It wasn’t a legacy firm but we had been working with them for a decade in a niche area so only 2-3 matters were affected.
Firing them as in moving this one, single case, or officially ending the relationship and never using them again?
