The trick is to get offers from other companies and bring it back your job asking them to match it or you walk. You have to be willing to actually walk though.
Jumping ship definitely. There was an instance where I was making a decent salary but I knew that I could be making more if I moved to a bigger agency so I started interviewing at other agencies. And eventually I got an offer from a much bigger agency. The offer was for a 20% salary increase.
For me, it's been internal raises. In the past when I have tried to get higher offers to bring back to my current company, the other companies were not willing to go any higher than my current salary.
I’ve only ever gotten big salary raises by switching to new agencies.
