Pros: Great opportunity to build relationships and ways of working from the ground up & be involved in early successes which can help cement your role in the agency
Cons: a lot of building as you go, can often be understaffed and deliverables/scope may not match resources/associated fees (stretching staff to extreme limits). Often long hours as every workstream will be “first time” round with the new agency…
Personally have worked on both newly won accounts and established ones and have a skew for new ones (but maybe I enjoy self abuse!! Ha)
It is NOT easy, the transition period can definitely be rough especially as the agency hires people.
Depends on what “from scratch” means. If it’s staffing up with positions and titles they know, then maybe it’ll be okay? They need bodies. If it’s a whole new discipline, different POV.
I was at a place that won some social-first business without a community manager on payroll. It took ~3 months to deliver the first content calendar while interviews and hires were ongoing; they hired people who freelanced for them before (and were probably part of the problem) to expedite onboarding; and had no real North Star when creative leadership was used to spots and stunts. When the client left, people lost work.

I’m looking for a role like that. Could you dm me or tell me what agency/account?
