Is audit more fun when we get back to the client site as a team? My whole time at EY has been in audit 100% remote and I am so isolated and board and not being trained well.

It’s fun to be around a team if you get a good 1 for sure. Client? No so much; or rarely. Definitely helps with training and camaraderie as well. Once you get the hang of it, it’s way more satisfying to work from home. But you can’t put a price on working with a good team you’re close to.

like

Agreed it’s fun as a staff/early senior for sure. Senior in charge/manager is less fun since it’s more delegation/pm than peer work.

like

“Audit” and “fun” don’t belong in the same sentence.

like

Yeah audit work is pretty boring. It was the perks of being in the office (bonding with teammates, coffee runs, happy hours, etc) that made Big 4 worth being in.

Depends on what your definition of fun is. I feel like most people don’t enjoy it or it doesn’t get anymore interesting in person. Not like the work changes. You should be able to learn more in person. Just driving to client site everyday isn’t fun if you spend two hours on the road. I think a good team can help you tolerate it more. A lot of the time your good friends ending up being on your engagements teams because you see them 10+ hours a day. If you get a bad team or people who you don’t vibe with, it’s game over.

Looking at making a move from a top 20 city to PNW farm style living. Work from home permanently and live peacefully. I'd be close enough to SEA that I'd be able to make it work if I had to (ie if remote ops reversed course) Anyone thinking similar or already done so? Also, has anyone sold their house to an institutional buyer? Obviously, you may get less cash, but it will also take longer to sell, so you are paying holding costs, etc and taking on more market risk.

Serious question: how difficult is it to get straight up fired from big 4? Outside the layoffs last year, I have personally never seen anyone let go for any reason. Got a really substantial (~40%) mid year raise after I brought in a basically unsolicited competing offer from one of our peers. My firm typically only adjusts salary on an annual basis in March, and I’m pretty worried I’ll see a smaller than normal annual raise this spring to “make up for” my out of sequence mid year raise. Any advice on advocating for myself to ensure that doesn’t happen?

I have about 2 years of general industry experience (web dev, web design, agency work) and 1 year of actual product design and finishing up a master's in HCI as well.. Is this reasonable?
