Is private equity/venture capital a dead industry right now due to high interest rates?

I wouldn’t say dead, just slow. Deals are still being made

like

PE is making plenty of $$$$$ and it is far from dead. Leverage strategies change, but people turn to private capital markets because they cannot get access to traditional sources of capital. Niche areas like distressed investments will get more looks in this type of market.

like

Absolitely not. UHNW continue to invest as the returns outpace the market. PE/VC are just more selective in their investments as cash is being soent much more wisely.

like

Seems hard to believe as overall market is on a tear.

like

Indeed.

Their RoIs on Covid and pre Covid deals are rough but many are still doing fine. They just can’t exit the way they hoped.

My investing strategy is just to DCA into an S&P 500 index fund and keep buying and holding. If I understand correctly, the sole disadvantage this has compared to a tax sheltered retirement account is that the quarterly dividends will be taxed? But even so, they’ll be taxed at a lower qualified dividend rate since I’m automatically reinvesting those dividends.

I would like to hit fire between 40-50. Currently 27, 185k total comp (125 for me and 60 for partner). Like my job don’t hate it don’t love it. Does an MBA make sense? I’m guessing it could take me to 170ish with that schools I’m looking at but wondering if the 40-50 retirement range makes an mba not make sense since I’d only have 10-20 years to save vs 12-22.

Would have to finance the whole thing myself. Current net worth is 140k. Thoughts?

Luggage delay claim question

I used Chase explorer to buy tickets for my vacation and luggages were delayed for a month. Per chase term I am entitled $100 a day for 3 days. But the claim agency chase used has been asking for airlines response, which has not came (2month+ now). I am concerned insurance will use this as an excuse to never compensate. Is there a good way to handle this situation?
TIA

A large part of my job involves building models or making reports that involve copying numbers from one document to another. Sometimes, if I get interrupted, I lose my train of thought and make mistakes in getting the right number. Nothing disastrous has happened, but I’m trying to figure out how to get better at not losing my train of thought when doing work that basically involves looking up numbers from various documents. Any suggestions?
