Is pwc thinking about moving to unlimited vacation that way they don't have to pay out vacation balances when people leave? I heard that's what they are thinking

Team,

You asked. We listened. We are simplifying our vacation policy.

like

PwC 4 I laughed way too hard

like

Unlimited vacation is more limiting than a set number of days why would anyone support going to unlimited days of PTO

like

Holy fucking shit I hope not. What happens to the year+ worth of vacation that I haven’t been able to fucking use?

like

There is evidence to suggest that employees of companies with unlimited vacation actually take less vacation. I would be very disappointed if the firm made this change as it would guarantee I am allowed to take less vacation.

like

This OP must be a PwC HR Troll. I’d use a shit ton more vacation if it was unlimited just like my friends in tech do!

like

It’s a great idea if you’re a partner. The partner I work for says we get 365 days of PTO, but the work doesn’t stop

like

PwC2 - I would venture to guess if they change to an unlimited plan, your accrued time would be paid out to you in a lump sum payment similar to if you were to leave the firm. I believe this is what GT did when they converted (not certain though). I have also heard lots of good and bad about the unlimited plan

like

Perf for me cause idgaf

like

I like have 25 days. That way I can be like oh I’m taking 3 weeks off at Christmas because if not it’s expiring!

like

Clearly they must mean the max 176 hours which is what we are allowed to accrue before losing time. You just stop accruing when you hit 176

like

Partner 1 that is correct. GT paid out all accrued time when we switched over to “Flex Time Off” it has its good and bad aspects. But it is definitely not “unlimited” time off. I only took maybe 10 days last year.

like

I would maybe be alright, if we got paid out for our accrued vacation balance. I think it would be harder though, because I would need to make a more conscious to make sure I am taking appropriate vacations. To D1s point, it is also nice to have a system metric to point to if you're getting pushback on an extra week of vacation showing you would lose vacation

like

Who said this?

like

Cold as ice.

like

GT does this.

like

Damn PWC2 you have 2000 hours of PTO???

like

@KPMG 1- I think you misunderstood. The firm only allows 176 balance at any given time (i.e., once you hit 176 hours, you stop accruing vacation time). You can roll it all over, sure, but it's not like yours with rollover plus time accrued on top. You max out at 176, period.

like

At RSM, you lose the accrued time. As you use vacation time with the new infinity plan - they force you to burn your accrued time out.

I'm sure there's a legal issue with that, which hasn't been explored. Just as I'm sure there would be a legal issue if the company took vested funds from your 401k.

like

The perk of FTO is you don’t feel limited when taking time off. Meaning you don’t count your vacation days and calculate to make sure you don’t use too much of your accrued PTO. I’ve taken 30-34 days off each of the last 2 years (not including legal holidays). It’s great for lower level employees but sucks for managers and above. They would accrue more then they take at that level because they have to work more. At least at other firms they would get paid out

Love how BS credit score is. Got my score up to 800 last month only to go on vacation so my credit utilization went up to 8% due to the increased spending and my score dropped 35 points because I didn’t immediately pay the balance after charging the purchases. I always pay my balance in full each month and have never missed a payment, how is 8% credit utilization determined to be that big of a risk that my score got immediately wrecked, I don’t understand

So annoyed,

So my work has unlimited PTO -global company. I'm based in uk and line manager is in USA. he said I'm taking to much time off and has brought it up with upper management. I have taken in total to date 22 days with 8 (4 include an operation) more to go. My performance is above target. I just feel blindsided.

Do we know if there is a sponsoring partner that oversees this benefit/ program that I could have more of a heart to heart conversation with? Not getting too far with the general email box and admin contact. From the benefit policy documentation, my understanding is that EY reimburses employees for surrogacy / adoption related expenses up to $50k lifetime. However, anything related to IVF or medical procedures has to go through insurance (also limited to $50k lifetime benefit). Continued…

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.
