You should absolutely try! If it's possible for your job function to be remote, they might be willing to let you work from home. At least part of the time. I've definitely negotiated more PTO and stock options, I'm sure you could negotiate flexibility.
Yep! Years ago, almost two decades ago, at an interview with General Dynamics I was asked by the director of Research and Development about start dates and if I had any holidays booked. I replied no holidays but I had agreed to give a talk (about research I had carried out the previous year - that I owned the IP for) at a government run unmanned systems facility up-country. I gave the dates of the event and told that all was fine. I was offered the job and I took it. Then came the date of the event and was immediately blocked from attending the government event by the very same director who interviewed me, citing “conflict of interest”.
Remote positions these days are pretty rare, but you might as well try it. That might be something where they can be flexible. Other more ordinary things, like PTO, are often set in the employee handbook and can't be negotiated.
Man it makes me sad it’s going away cause my role makes no sense to be in office
Equity!
Hmm good point
Whether you are a job candidate or a long-term employee, you should think about the things that are truly important to you and rank them. Most people focus on salary, but depending on the company, anything from vacation to hybrid/remote to job title can be negotiated.
It is true that the more senior the role, the more flexibility you will have, but even for junior level roles, there can be room to negotiate. For example, you might be able to negotiate a flex schedule or a different start/end time to your day for some entry level jobs. Be realistic, though. Especially for more junior roles, I wouldn't ask for too many negotiable items. Have one in mind, maybe a second one as a fallback, and be prepared to trade some wage/salary if the other item is truly important to you.
As a manager, my job is to optimize the performance of my teams. Some people are motivated by money, some by job title, others by speaking at scientific conferences, and still others by vacation. When I know what truly motivates people, then I can figure out how best to work with them within our HR policies. That's equally true for candidates and for long-time employees.
I was halfway through finishing a post-grad and asked that the time required for studies would be a given. When I started it kinda was but only because I forced the issue with the training dept. The interviewers were apparently surprised. I was also about 6 months Prego during the interview.
Vacation.
I got the week.
At least at J&J, we’d likely disregard your remote request and as a hiring manager I’d see that as a red flag. So I’d advise finding out what their remote policies are first. Smaller companies tend to offer more flexibility.
Oh no hopefully they don’t see it as a red flag

I’ve negotiated PTO and hybrid work when I got offers. I ended up getting them to give me an extra day hybrid and a guarantee on the required travel
Always good to ask
