Kindness and collaboration are great. But there is a time and place - don't be naive and think it's always the right answer
I agree with everyone’s comment here. It’s sad for me to say “ you are in the wrong industry” when it comes to kindness, and collaboration but it’s true. No room for that in IB.
I worked in mid corp banking before IB and it’s such a different environment. The fast-paced and high stress environments makes people act different to who they truly are. Tempers flare regularly too when things go wrong, especially with seniors.
I've been in MM and lower MM firms and have generally enjoyed the culture. People are more understanding of life events and there's a level of camaraderie in the bullpen. That said, it's still IB so expect to put in long hours and put out great work product
Yes, you are in the wrong industry. Don’t be the guy at BofA that died from working 120 hours a week. All the money in the world won’t buy you happiness and the stress of IB will lead you to the grave. Good luck
it’s really dependent on group culture ultimately but agree that IB can be sharp elbowed at times
