I work in Pharma consulting and often times I will remind myself and coworkers the physicians we work with deal with real emergencies where people can die. We on the other hand do not and it’s a surprisingly strong Northstar.

Reality bites.
Your coworkers are not and should not be your friend circle.
The firm isn't paying for dinners and running social events out of the goodness of their heart. The firm is doing those things to make sure you're as tied into it as possible so that it's as hard as possible for you to leave. Everything that isn't cold hard cash is an effort by the firm to make it easier not to pay you more cold hard cash. Go to the social events, enjoy the drinks and the meals and the conversation, but don't ever let it become your entire life. And don't fall into the trap of only socialising with other high earners. That's how you end up on the hedonic adaptation treadmill chasing satisfaction and never building your financial security.
Make sure your social circle is at least partially separate from work. If some coworkers become genuine friends, great - make sure you see them outside of a work context fairly regularly. But your work and your social life are not and should not be the same thing.

I keep my work life entirely siloed away from my personal life and do not associate with coworkers outside of work. The friends I do associate with and that we do stuff with are from all walks of life, many of whom know nothing about consulting or the firms I've worked at over the years.
