Hi everyone! I am working with my HR to improve our maternity/paternity leave policy. Currently I only get 2 weeks fully paid and then an additional 8-12 weeks at 60% pay (short term disability). Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. If the stress and surprise of just how difficult it apparently is to get pregnant wasn’t enough, the miscarriage put us over. We got back to it and have been trying for the last 2 months again, still no luck. We’re freaking out… all we want is a family. Any similar stories? Advice? 😢

How did you tell your manager you’re pregnant? Did it affect pay/promos? And then, subsequently, how did you start letting colleagues know you’re pregnant? Feels awkward to just randomly drop the news in a meeting! I work remotely so it’s hard to tell by video :) I’m 21 weeks and feel like I’ve waited as long as I can to at least notify my manager. I was waiting to negotiate my salary for next year but per company trend that doesn’t get set until January (manager reviews are written in Dec).

Recently had our first child. It's really making me think twice about my career path. For those of you with kids, is the job worth it? I feel like I'm losing out on so many memories already.

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. All my applications are under one login with the parent company's website. My question is, can HR and recruiters from the different brands see all my open applications (including those with the other brands) or just the ones that concern the brand they work for?

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!
