Congratulations on getting the spot at Apple! You should be proud of yourself, also most places allow a 6-15 month “ramp up”. Also don’t forget we’re in a pandemic still and everything takes a lot longer since most in office settings are now virtual.
I think everyone struggles with imposter syndrome , I know I do!
Just keep your head up, take notes of the questions you ask and feel free to discuss your thoughts with you manager/director. I think showing vulnerability in most causes isn’t viewed as weak or incapable. ❤️
Be glad they're holding your hand. There are plenty of teams that will dump you in the deep end and shrug when you flounder.
It took me like 3.5 years to feel like I was actually confident in my current role. The hand holding definitely lasted longer than 6 months. You got this.
I'd say the imposter syndrome never really goes away. That is, you should always feel like you're not the smartest person ever. If you feel like you've learned everything, you're probably just being arrogant.
How could you feel that way in Silicon Valley when the guy who created the company you work for is worth $80 billion and began the company shortly after high school but just before the start of his sophomore year at Stanford where of course guy never went to class but hung around just long enough to make the right connections to grab himself some of that elusive startup capital when the time came all while never graduating college and here you are his employee with 120k in loan debt and BS
Unless you lied on your application and the headhunter who recruited you did so regardless of the standards to be followed and simply sought to fill a quota the I don't know how you could feel like an imposter which I'm assuming is what this made up Imposter Syndrome boils down to. Apple spends a good bit of money on recruitment and considering the skilled labor shortage, their competion for the available quality labor it's unlikely they hired a poser. So I say have some confidence.
