I've been in PeopleOps (mostly focused on TA Ops) for over 9 years now. I've somehow gotten by without a degree in HR or a certification, but would like to get some more education to continue to advance my career. What are your thoughts on PHR vs SPHR vs SHRM for someone with my years of experience and current role as a manager?

SHRM is correlated with a pay boost and I think it helps if you are in management or want to progress.

like

Another vote for SHRM. More all-encompassing, which will likely produce greater value from an opportunity and compensation standpoint.

like

Go for SHRM. It is more knowledged-based. It will also help you get a higher pay or even higher position.

Maybe this is a me thing, so apologies if it's not relevant, but does anyone ever feel like their family pits women against each other, especially when it comes to comparing someone who fills the more stereotypical female role against someone who may not fit that mold as much? I feel like I sometimes see this as a thing with South Asians (especially in my family), but perhaps I'm overthinking it or assuming it incorrectly.

Looking to pivot from biotech to big tech in a less technical role (bizops, analytics, implementation manager) . I have a degree from Stanford in Biology (c/o 2021) and experience leading technical client implantations, but feel like companies just see my degree isn’t finance/CS/ statistics, and throw out my application. Am I overthinking? And what certifications have you seen help boost a person’s resume?

Was let go as a staff 2 at 77k in September and currently have 3 offers in deciding between them. Would really appreciate any feedback. 1. 3rd year associate at PWC -HIA at 85k. 2. Transformation analyst at a big 3 automaker 83.5k 10% bonus. 3. Product development role at a healthcare startup. 100k 7.5k sign on and 7.5k bonus in 3 months. Potential 20% bonus at year end.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?

Hi! Moving advice time :)

Moving to DMV in summer to start a new role in Gaithersburg. Car required to commute once team returns to in-person work 3-4x a week. Hoping to live in/around DC, at least near a Metro stop. Will be renting for near-term. Would like to stay under $3500/mo for 2bd2bth.

Thinking about Bethesda right now - like the area, and probably the best place to commute from without going further out to Rockville. Any other areas with similar atmospheres I should consider?

Ty!

Hey all, new to this bowl. Currently a Tech Recruiter and eventually want to make the transition into a HRBP or HR Generalist role. Would love to hear from anyone who started in recruiting then transitioned into another area of HR. Have been thinking of either working on PHR certification or MBA with focus in HR mgt. Thanks!

I'm in a stand-alone regional role when all other BP's are together the other side of the world aligned vertically.

The business is set up to support vertical streams, so all HR output (data, analytics etc.) is not by regional level, only by vertical.

As the majority of the business is within a similar time zone and all activity is conducted via verticals, I'm left with little influence or ownership, but full accountability for the region.

Any advice on how to improve the situation?

Regarding employers, do background checks verify only the employers you /list/on your resume? A few employers ago (but during pandemic) let me go for performance (before I was in HR, & dealing with depression from that job), and this employer is like a stain on my resume, resulting in me not being a strong candidate in interviews (verified this is a problem) since I have to explain why I moved to the next job.
