I've been out of public accounting and tax accounting for 2 years. I'm getting back in but concerned I lost all my tax knowledge. I applied for a staff role but they gave me a senior role because of my experience. How can I get back to where I was?
I was thinking of finding a recent tax textbook and reading it. Is there a better way I could go about this? The book likely won't cover PPP loans and all that stuff.

Nice that you are self aware of this.

Firms (not just the one you are at) often have portals with free podcasts for the latest developments for clients. Also AICPA, CCH or BNA “headlines”

Firm online training/materials, notes from co-worker would help.

Just out of curiosity why do you want to come back? I’m 2 years into tax and want to switch to something different

I really enjoyed tax work and don't enjoy the industry job I have now. I'd rather be really good at tax work than what I'm doing now. I got hired at a small firm, so it's not like big4.

Like a lot of people, I’m thinking about going back to school for an MBA. I don’t have the money or time to dedicate to a top tier school, so I’ve been looking at WGU’s MBA in IT Management. It’s accredited. Time and cost-efficient.

My primary concern is not prestige or the connections from school like some others I’ve heard. I just want to know if I went this route, would I still be able to check that MBA box and open the door for higher starting salary if I made a jump?

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
