I’ve been thinking about going back to school for a master’s in HR or organizational psych. Partly out of interest, partly to deepen my work around compliance and workplace culture. But I worry it’ll be seen as “fluff” next to my JD. I want to expand my toolkit, not waste time or money. Does it actually help in practice?

I’m in the habit of alwaysss trying to get a referral before I apply to a job. Is that what most people do? Should I start applying to some things even without a referral?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

Case load= malpractice? Small plaintiff’s firm of 25 attorneys. I was a 2 year associate hired and given 50 active files in pre litigation status. 9 mos later a partner quit and I inherited 45 more. I got up to 105 files. Now I hover at 85 active files in varying stages of pre lit. I asked managing partner for help and was told to settle more claims to lessen my load. Is this what people consider negative work culture?
