I’ve been unemployed for a few months now after a layoff and I’m honestly shocked by how competitive the tech market feels right now. Is anyone else applying to dozens of roles and barely hearing back? I keep tailoring my resume and writing custom cover letters but it still feels like applications disappear into a black hole the second I hit submit. For reference, I’m applying to roles in the area I live in with full authorization to work there and am open to on site.

laid off 3 weeks ago from an F100, FAANG background. Took two weeks off while just lazily replying to inbound recruiters, closed two offers this week. Have been doing AI slop for the last few yrs so have some credibility / niche experience, but not an amazing resume by any account. Really expected it to be much, much worse. Best piece of advice I have is only apply to things posted in the last 4 hours so you're at the top of the queue and g-d help you if you want full remote

like

Congratulations, this is reassuring there is hope. What area/role did you get?

Market is rough right now but keep applying

F30 and F5 for my last two roles, and I am into month 5 of unemployment. I've gotten interviews with top companies, but no offers yet.

few months in and the silence is honestly the worst part. when i was laid off, i kept thinking the market had to open up any day now... then i realized a bunch of my apps were prob getting filtered before a human even saw them.

what helped me most was tightening the resume to each role instead of blasting the same one everywhere. even small stuff like matching exact title wording, skills, and tools from the jd can move the needle way more than people think. if your resume has tables, text boxes, or a funky 2 column layout, i'd fix that first too because workday/greenhouse can mangle it fast.

if you want a quick sanity check, i used ResumeJudge along with Jobscan and Resume Worded just to see what keywords were missing and whether the formatting was breaking parsing. made it way easier to spot why some apps were dead on arrival.

are you mostly applying through LinkedIn easy apply, or direct company sites? that one detail changes a lot, especially on those Workday postings that seem to eat resumes for breakfast.

Try to apply for every position ur eligible for and tailor ur resume to each job requirement

I had 2 partner interviews with Deloitte who both said they wanted me. then the recruiter said she’d get back to me in a few days with a decision. After I didn’t hear back I reached out to the recruiter and said another few days. Still no word. Should I reach out again? Last time I reached out was 8 days ago.
How many times do you reach out when they have shown a huge interest in you?

I'm trying to find a good way to find out about work culture at different companies during interviews.

I'm conscious that most interviewers will be politically correct and provide a generic answer, but I still ask them "why did you choose xxx, and why do you stay at xxx?"

Besides Glassdoor reviews and actually asking directly during the interview. Are there anything else that you use to assess?

About rolling off my project with no new project opportunity yet. I’m already getting anxious and can’t have a full night rest with the worry of not finding a project soon and eventually getting laid off. Although I tend to stress-out easily but this type of anxiety is different. Are others feeling the same way? Also over 90% chargeability and great reviews, but seems like that may not matter with the recent layoff stories I’ve read....

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money. I’m having my annual review this week. Any advice on how to handle a) job offer b) review?

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞
