At 8 months, speaking from my experience, you would not be a candidate for a a next level up position. You would need to be at least 1 year if not 1.5-2 years for that. What practice are you in now? What issues are you having with WLB? Have you voiced concerns? Need a little more background here I think to make this truly helpful for you

You’d need at least a year in the role performing at the next level, but with less than 2 years total work experience, you’re most likely at the C level for your next role.
You can apply to other companies. You would just do so at the C level. If you are coming from Cap, then you will most likely receive more pay even as a lateral hire. Cap is known to pay below average.
You can also try networking into a different group if you’re not finding outside roles.
