I've been working at my current firm for 8 months... not satisfied with the WLB, the work itself, and my pay. If I want to start applying elsewhere, would I be applying to the same pay grade level or senior consultant (the next level up)? Should I wait for my first promotion before applying?

Which consulting firms should I apply to? I'm 1+ years out of undergrad. All comments and suggestions appreciated, thanks.

So you have 8 months total professional work experience...? You’re equivalent to an entry level candidate.

Same reply

At 8 months, speaking from my experience, you would not be a candidate for a a next level up position. You would need to be at least 1 year if not 1.5-2 years for that. What practice are you in now? What issues are you having with WLB? Have you voiced concerns? Need a little more background here I think to make this truly helpful for you

Are you taking on responsibilities at the next level up?

like

Somewhat, yes. Would I be able to make a case for that if I apply elsewhere?

You’d need at least a year in the role performing at the next level, but with less than 2 years total work experience, you’re most likely at the C level for your next role.

like

You can apply to other companies. You would just do so at the C level. If you are coming from Cap, then you will most likely receive more pay even as a lateral hire. Cap is known to pay below average.

You can also try networking into a different group if you’re not finding outside roles.
