I’ve got a 3 hour long callback interview via zoom coming up sometime in the next couple of weeks. How do I keep from becoming fidgety and zoning out?! Seriously worried

The good thing about zoom is you can hold something out of frame. As long as it’s not making sounds nobody will know. I have a pen that is the kind you twist to make the point come out and that’s been super helpful because I can twist and untwist it but if I move it also just looks like I’m holding a pen and don’t need to grab anything else when I need to write notes.

likehelpful

If you fidget with something, practice on a zoom call with someone to make sure the microphone doesn’t pick up the sound. Constant clicking sounds would be very distracting to interviewers if the microphone picks it up and amplify the sound.

I just had a 3 hours worth of callback interviews earlier today. Hope to have similarly good news 🤞🏽

Also, congrats on the callback!

Thanks y’all. I think I’m gonna get one of those fatigue mats and try standing. Good call on the pen!!

Agree with A1. On calls I tend to keep a pen or rubber band in my hand so I can fidget. If you can do so comfortably, it might also help to do the call while standing. I stand for most of my calls so I can at least fidget from leaning on one side to the other.

Update us when you get your offer!

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…

Does anyone freeze with deadlines, and if so what works for you? Whenever I have a deadline my brain freezes and refuses to work. It used to be that my brain worked overtime right before a deadline - now it refuses to work until after a deadline. One of the things that my ADD coach helped me with was realizing that I wasn’t prioritizing activities that help me feel recharged. Between work and home responsibilities, I was just burnt out and overwhelmed.

So now when I start to get burned out I focus on reducing auditory overwhelm, getting outside, listen to music, get comfortable, read a fun book, etc.

As we’re heading into the weekend, what are some things you do to recharge and give yourself a break?
