I have heard many times that you should try to stay at a firm 12 months before you look elsewhere. Right now I am litigating in an area I don’t care about at all, but my background is in entertainment. I have been in my current role for less than a year but an opportunity arose in my city at a firm where I could transition to entertainment law. Will the short time I’ve been in my current position be a red flag or not necessarily?

Is it worth it to go back to school for a better track to a FAANG company? The division I’m currently in seems like there are no good opportunities, and I have the funds available to finish my undergraduate full time (Canada). I applied to Amazon before for a highly senior position and made it to final interview so I think I would have a better chance for a new grad type role.

Due to the small nature of our team (3 legal members), I have been involved in all areas of our business and even advise c-suite frequently about legal risks. I’m a new patent prosecution associate and unfortunately only just now realized that maybe prosecuting patents isn’t something I want to do long term. I loved copyright (and trademark) in law school, but I have loans to pay off.
