I've posted in the BL bowl too, but does anyone have any insight on temporary clerkship positions that have been approved for 1 year but may last only 1-2 months subject to funding? I was wondering if it was worth risking my career for a position that may only last a few months (I am currently working).

TL;DR: are these temporary positions normally funded so as to last 6+ months?

Floater clerkships where you work with all the judges in a district?

What do you think of those clerkships? Any good?

The judge told you that temp clerk funding may only be 1-2 months?

You can ask the judge in the past if the funding was approved for the whole length.

In my experience, the position may have been subject to funding but once funded, it was for the whole term. The 1 year clerkship was funded for the whole year.

Just jumped from 60K —> 110K after 2 years of being very underpaid although being considered a “top performer”.

If you’re on the fence about jumping to another firm or starting to look elsewhere, realize that loyalty is often only skin deep in consulting. Prioritize your career goals, whether they be financial otherwise. Praise and appreciation are nice, but don’t let ANYONE make you feel bad about choices you make for your happiness.

I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

Interviewed with Chicago court 2 weeks ago; they decide mid-August. Interviewed with DC judge last week; hear from him by this Friday. Chicago said if I need an answer before August, they'd try to make a decision about me sooner.
Should I ask Chicago for an answer? Or should I wait until there's an offer from DC judge? Maybe seems better to withdraw before an offer is made rather than ask for time to think about it/turn down DC? What's proper etiquette?

I’ve been at my clerkship for 5 years (4 with a different judge) and one with my current judge, and I heard horrible things about him before starting, but I assumed they were exaggerated. Turns out they’re all true, and I’ve had to start therapy to deal with him and the incredibly toxic environment. I’m trying to get out ASAP b/c he also has a history of firing clerks without cause or notice, but I think I’ll only be able to give two weeks notice if i get the job I’m interviewing for. Thoughts?
