Honestly, portion control was a big game changer for me. I still eat lots of 'unhealthy' food - or what people would consider that (e.g., gluten, dairy) but I think being able to control it rather than going crazy has helped. That and weights
I’d also consider motivation vs discipline & habits vs outcomes.

Can I ask what has helped you make this switch? I know o need to do this. I work out pretty much daily and started seeing great results but I’ve definitly plateaued and know my diet isn’t the best.
For 10 years I have been struggling to lose weight. After I gave birth to 4 beautiful children, I really gained so much weight that now I am having problems on how to shed it off. I know it's my lifestyle. We just love food.
This is where my question comes in. Is getting a fitness coach worth it? I know myself, I don't have enough self-discipline and I think a coach could help me.
Yes! According to the book Atomic Habits. It pays to change your mindset, the author says to "Make the habit attractive.: This way you are less likely to not do it because you want to do it.
A mental shift goes a long way I always say. Oh hey, I am rhyming. Anyways your next step is to exercise for at least 5 mins and continue from there
Well, exercise helps tune the engine so that it can burn more overall calories. Without the exercise the body will eat the muscle before the fat since muscle is the highest consumer of energy.
So get out there and move. Just don't eat back the calories from exercise.
For me it was training my brain to be able to put all those calorie intakes into perspective.
My morning iced coffee didn't seem so appealing when I could remember feeling like death from doing a run that barely burned off half of its calories.
I'm taking it one day at a time. It does seem overwhelming to have to think about the entire process of losing weight. I try to start with eating more healthy meals and go for a run at least once or twice a week.
I make an effort to begin with baby steps and advance after a couple weeks. I've found that taking it easy has helped me train my body slowly but surely. This is my nth attempt at fitness. I want to succeed this time.
