The process is simple and I was home in less than 90 minutes. I had minor swelling and discomfort for a few days.
You’ve missed the Masters as this point so maybe you want to wait for the NBA Finals or football season since you’ll have to spend a few days on the couch. 😀
My urologist did his own vasectomy. And he tells patients that as a way to point out how quick and easy this minor procedure is. I think he’s nuts- pun intended- but he’s not wrong. I camped out in the couch with some ice packs and ESPN and felt like I recovered quickly.
I’m sure my wife’s C-section was a thousand times worse and she still moved around/helped with the kids after a few days…but she still let me off the hook for helping while I recovered. Also- worry free sex is amazing.
It was an emergency c section due to complications so we were more focused on her not bleeding out. After that, it seemed dumb to have another surgery for that.
Also- it’s my turn to carry the weight of birth control. It was a seriously easy procedure for me and spared her additional surgery.
Agree with SM1. The procedure hurt more than I expected, but it’s over very quick. Super weird, but to me the worst part of recovery was the hair growing back in. It was just so itchy. You do have to provide a few samples a few months apart for them to confirm it worked properly.
If you just had a kid, I’d wait for at least a year and use protection until then.
I waited a few years after we had our last kid, and it really helped revive our sex life. Really glad I did it.
Got mine done last year. Best decision ever. Super low risk procedure and it was very quick recovery. If you don’t want to have anymore kids it’s a easy decision.

If you want to wait a little, point out that the recovery means you can’t pick up kids for about a week. I’m ready to get mine (third kid is just over a year old) but we aren’t ready for me to be an effectively useless parent for a week!
Ooooh, good point. I hadn't even thought of that. My wife is pregnant with our second and we've been talking abut a vasectomy, but totally hadn't thought about recovery stopping me from helping out with the little ones.
I can't go through with it. A. You never know what is going to happen in the future. B. There are still risks no matter how simple of a procedure it is. I'm entirely not comfortable with those risks.
SM1, don't be so negative! There are still other ways to control that don't involve procedures or substances that can disrupt hormones.
My ex pushed really hard for me to get a vasectomy. I just couldn't go through with it. We ended up getting divorced, and I had another child with my current wife. I'm so grateful that I went with my gut and didn't have the procedure. Everything happens for a reason.
Going to be in this boat in about 5 months. Had friends get it done and took a while to get back to normal exercise routine because of some pain.
Best decision I ever made. Do it.
I am divorced with 2 kids. Best decision I made too. I don't need to worry about having a moment of weakness during sex that drastically changes my next 20 years. The only advice I would give is that the complete healing took months. I got the procedure over the summer and could not ride a bike for many months.
