Just signed an offer with mckinsey and recruiter told me the latest I can join in November 19th.

I have a vacation that I've already planned from 12/7 - 12/14. Should I let the recruiter know about this plan? Is this something that I can work out with my manager once I'm assigned?

Tell the recruiter and again tell the manager

To be fair, this may actually work well since you’ll probably have a few weeks of training, have your vacation, and then you’ll only have a few days before the company shuts down for Christmas. You may not be staffed at all till the new year, so it will be easy to protect your vacation

like

Tell the recruiter - it’ll help them determine the best course of action. Odds are the next start date is January which is why they’re pushing for late November. Might want to have a reason why you didn’t bring it up during the offer process if it was already planned.

like

This happened to me in 2012 - they just wanted me on the books in 2012 but let me take my planned vacation.

like

I thought McK offers were good for a year? Better to join late November anyway, you won't have to do any real work until the new year.

Hello everyone! How do you manage holiday pay when the holiday is on a Saturday/ Sunday. For example, if I have someone working on Christmas (Sunday), they should be paid 1.5 but what if they work on Monday as well?I know this might sound silly to some people but I’m covering for payroll for the holidays and I don’t want to mess up!

Hi, I’m looking to switch into marketing (entry level), as consulting is not aligned with my skill set/passions. Does anyone know of any ad agencies in LA that have good work-life balance, good pay, PTO, great culture, promotions, training? Your help means more than you know!!! Looking to do informational interviews and try to network my way in, as I feel the barrier to entry was much harder than anticipated. Anything helps, thank you so much!

You’re either not valuable to your company and/or your job isnt that important if you’re able to take PTO and not at least send some e-mails.

I don’t have much energy to paint these days but knocked out a quick abstract during the holiday break. Ignore the messy edges - it was a study but I didn’t get any further on the project.

How much stock do you put on benefits? I have two offers with stark differences in benefits. Job 1: role I want, but benefit sucks (2 weeks paternity leave, 20% coinsurance). Job 2: role is okay but higher level and great benefits (16 weeks paternity, 0% coinsurance, 5 more days of vacation). Total comp is the same though. I wonder if I should just focus on role but Job 2 is a large company, so I can move around after 2-3 years I’d expect. Thoughts?

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?
