Don’t be surprised if you experience side effects during the first 1-3 weeks. But also don’t expect them.
For every medication there’s a vocal minority of patients describing how the medication ruined their life. Your drug has likely been prescribed to millions of people. The vast majority take it and move on with their lives, never posting online.
These drugs underwent extreme scrutiny in gaining their FDA approval. If severe side effects were common, it wouldn’t be on the market.
Good luck!
If Prozac doesn’t work for you, don’t hesitate to try another one. I went through zoloft, Prozac, and Wellbutrin before I landed on lexapro and I’ve never felt better. What works for others might not work for you so don’t be afraid to give them a month or two and say NEXT! My biggest SSRI advice in general though is that you should still be feeling things. The intrusive thoughts and feelings will still be there, the Rx just makes it easier to shoo them away. Focus on the ways you react to stressors with the drugs, and notice that it’s less intense than without. It shouldn’t be a constant blah feeling. For example I literally couldn’t wait in a line without having a mild panic attack before and now it’s fine. But I still get excited for concerts and trips. Make sure you still care about the good stuff.
Main thing is the first two weeks are tough and jittery but then it levels out. I will advise to be very careful when drinking… 1 drink equals like 3 drinks to my system now
Don’t make any rash decisions, don’t buy into any bad thoughts too much. The weaning on period is real, so be gentle with yourself mentally, emotionally and physically.
This is so helpful thank you! I may be having a placebo experience but I think I am already feeling the effects and it’s just taking the edge off :)
