I'm 4.5 months pregnant. I would take traveling on my period any day over the current level of discomfort during my weekly cross country commute, and I know it will only get worse. Enjoy your periods while you have them ladies, always remember what the alternative is haha
I just want to say it's really empowering to see an open conversation around this. Own your period!
Ask your doctor for a light antidepressant for use leading up to your period and during it. It has worked wonders for the mood swings, cravings and somewhat the cramps. Then I down ibuprofen for the pain.
I use Nuva ring continuously. Talked to many doctors and they say it is fine. I don't have a period or the hormone swings. My period used to be horrible and my emotions through the roof. Not for everyone I am sure but I have LOVED the last 4 years without Mrs. Monthly.
I have prescription naproxen (muscle relaxer). Pop one or two of those on the day I know I'm getting my period and it helps with the pain so much. Have been on it since high school and combined with nuvaring, my periods have been so much easier. Doesn't help that much with PMS and mood swings, I still notice being a crazy bitch the week before I get it
I too can't be on hormonal BC and it's hell. Lifestyle changes have helped plus some scripts from the doc. Still a struggle when traveling and being on client sites for 12 hrs. I should be stock in Tampax.
I didn't know about magnesium, I'm going to try that. I take Evening Primrose daily and that's helped.
^ magnesium can help keep you regular. I use a powder magnesium called "natural calm" if you are using muscle relaxers or pain killers - also take a stool softener. Else you make fix one problem and create another.
Acupuncture has also helped me. I get it for anxiety/constipation, but it has also helped my PMS/periods. I get it done by the same MD who recommended the supplements. Also, I was low on iron and once I got my iron up, my periods got much lighter and less painful. I took Vitron C (iron plus vit c- you need c to absorb it). It is a pretty high OTC dose so I would only rec taking it once you have had your ferritin levels checked. Also, a game changer when it comes to fatigue. Mermaids, we can do this!
Good share, D2!
I can see how birth control could lead to depression. I have no hormonal PMS problems now. Thanks God. But I think my sex drive took a hit.
Yes! I was about to report that I'm flying back home this morning and no sign of the old friend yet! Yay! (I'm not pregnant, don't worry)
I usually have such bad pain that I have to take 4-5 midol in the first 5 hours, and even then I sometimes have call in sick to work. But I just started traveling and I'm so nervous I'm going to get it tomorrow on the flight :/
A1: Are your mood swings really that bad??!
Yup! Try a few days in advance. I've heard from a lot of friends it works on them. I forget the medical explanation. I guess it also depends on the cause of pain.
Just took a couple midol, following A1!
Good luck!!
Yeah it hits me very bad. Mostly get super anxious and depressed. Doesn't mix well with traveling
I definitely get the anxiety but not the tears. Hope you feel better.
Cinnamon tea helps
P3: I'll try it tomorrow!
P2: Amen to that
A1 I could work with mermaids!
D2- I like it!!!
