Taking magnesium daily and especially around pms/period days has been a game changer on both the physical and emotional front
Try heating pads for cramps! Works wonders and they have special "menstrual pads" that fit discretely under your clothes so you can wear up to 8 hours
Are you on birth control? I used to have horrible cramps, but it's really helped me
D4- I use an IUD and it's been great! Almost never have my period anymore, but I'm sure it works differently for different women. I used to have very heavy periods for extended periods and no matter how much I switched up birth control brands, wouldn't work. IUD worked wonders!!
Yeah, to make a long story short, all of these symptoms are coming from our hormones being out of whack. Caffeine, sugar, stress and lack of sleep and exercise can all cause the hormones to get out of whack. I am unable to go on hormonal birth control, so I have had to balance mine through life style changes and supplements. My progestin was low so I took chaste berry supplements and they helped to balance them out. This was all recommended by a doctor. Still half asleep so if this post isn't perfect, please forgive me.
Drugs
Hadn't heard about magnesium or chaste berry. Will have to try. Obgyn doesn't want me back on hormonal bcontrol because of my age, but DAMN! Women in my family go thru menopause VERY late in life and I don't relish another decade of this $)/@!! Loved the shot when I was on it. No periods. Did not miss them.
Does it make you sleepy?
Magnesium was a complete came changer for me. Take@magnesium supplements that also include calcium as you need both for your body to be able to use it. I use calm Magnesium. Also no coffee for me the day of, makes my cramps worse. Also I found using all cotton tampons makes them hurt less. No idea why.
Ok so this is TMI, but do supplements make any of you kinda constipated? That's what happened to me with calcium pills so I stopped taking them. That's the only reason I'm careful about my supplement intake - really value my morning bathroom time haha :/
Was actually going to mention that people take magnesium for constipation so to be careful how much you take. Everyone reacts differently, but it def won't make you constipated. I originally took it for IBS-constipation and happened to notice the positive PMS results as an added benefit. Pumpkin seeds also have a lot of magnesium and can be a good snack
D4 is right about pain meds and constipation and magnesium does work wonders for that!
Naproxen doesn't make you sleepy at all! It's like aleve or midol, just stronger. Those two have never helped me but I swear by naproxen.
Happy for you! FYI, Advil liquigels are what work for me. It feels so good to know that I'm not the only one struggling with this.
D2 you are like a period expert! Going to try every one of these suggestions!!
You're welcome! Yes, I should clarify- I meant Facebook and not FB :)
@P2 you are totally right! @D4 me too, had to quit it. Can't get some if ya don't even want it. I'd rather have oily skin, smaller boobs, and more sexy time. 💁🏼
Cranberry juice?
D1: Ooh that's a good tip on the chocolate. And yeah, loose clothes all the way!
I'm so emotional that sometimes I go back to the hotel and bawl my eyes out for no reason.
OP- I know some women who have been asked by their doc to take pain meds a few days/week before period and it helps with pain
Omgsh TC1: I get kinda emotional just before it, but not that bad! Hope it gets better!
D2: I tried calcium for a while, but that made no difference. Definitely trying magnesium!
A1: Yeah, I sometimes take a few hours before when I start feeling like it's coming soon, but maybe I should try a day or two in advance.
