Laid off from EY due to cost cutting, HR interview phone screen with PwC. Say truth about layoff?

Yes, but with positive spin. Don't lie. You learned a great deal, you forged some lasting relationships, you don't take it personally (it's just business), etc.

like

EY try not to let negative preconceived notions impact how you handle yourself in the interview. Many good people have been downsized in this environment. Consider what you have learned, what you bring to the table, and why you would be a great fit for PwC. There is life after layoff (been there, done that. Twice.) Your attitude and approach will make a world of difference. Good luck!

like

You are welcome, OP.

Take the high road, tell the truth, and spin it positively. As I've said on previous threads, it's immaterial whether your ex employer is permitted legally to state that they downsized you, because hiring managers sometimes use backchannels.

like

Just so you know, EY can't actually say how you left. Take that for what it's worth. If you can spin why you took time off. Do it, why not.

like

Thank you p1, that helps a lot.

That's the backup plan but PwC is first choice since I got through interview process. Had the call today and was upfront about layoff. Hr said they will forward details to hiring manager and give me an update on Friday. I don't like my chances but let's see if they put me through the interviews

like

They already know. Speak positive of your experience and what you can contribute. Always be positive and forward looking.

like

That's what I though as well. Pretty sure they will throw my resume out of the window

I didn't take time off

This happened last week

How did you get the PWC phone screen so fast??

Which part of advisory were you in at EY?

What practice / city were you in?

Consider going to industry?

How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

I have been interviewing for a job. I think I will get an offer. On paper everything is great. ~30k more than I’m making now, plus larger bonus and more profit sharing. Everyone seemed nice. I know someone who works there, and she says it’s great. I hesitate because I love my job. I have the best boss I’ve ever had and genuinely like coming to work. I’ve never had that before. Am I stupid for staying or possibly leaving??

So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. I know he was the provider of the household and his wife didn't have a job since she was raising three young ones. Needless to say, I had to take off because I felt terrible, sick to my stomach. How do you deal with firing guilt? Is that a thing? I can't help but feeling like I did something wrong.

I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Hi fishes,
Need your thoughts.
I am done with my client interview and it went well but they are asking me to come to gugaon location.
I am from Bangalore location.
I directly said to client that I can't since I have my family here.
When I inform this to my manager he is saying how come u say like this to client.according to kpmg policy u need to travel to anywhere to work.
This is not good right. What should be my reply to the client in such a case and how to handle manager on this?

Hey All,
I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

Salary check. I am currently an in house attorney. 12 YOE. Large company with great coworkers doing regulatory work for the insurance industry. Good work life balance. I live in a high COL city. Out of curiosity and to test the market, I interviewed at a FAANG. Did not get the job, but found out TC was 350k, significantly higher than my TC 230k. I thought I was compensated fairly, but would love to see your thoughts.
