How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

If you want to go back to consulting are you considering going back to EY? If so, did you stay on good terms when you departed with your leadership team? Can you consider having someone who knows your value making a strong case to bring you back on?
I think your next move should put you in manager range. I know the Senior Consultant band at Deloitte caps around $150ish (and requires either a top MBA or 10+ years exp or a combination of both). Newly grads get $140k base. I’d say it’s possibly to get manager, but is going to be dependent on how well you interview.
Yeah absolutely
Isn't VP at a bank basically entry level?
Managers typically have 7 years and solid consulting experience, it's going to be a stretch with a big 4
You'd be an idiot to take anything lower than a manager offer
No senior is going to get paid 155 base. So you’re in a tough spot as well
Okay with coming in as a Senior, but I feel like that's a bit of a downgrade with 7 years total experience. Don't care as long as comp is in line lol
K1 - VP in a bank is a manager equivalent
Not answering your question but did want to ask you how your career path was from leaving EY to becoming VP and why you want to go back to consulting!
It’s going to be a tough sell OP. Consulting firms even for boomerangs take industry experience with a grain of salt at manager level.
Now you’re thinking OP 😊
Also hated showing up at the same office every day.
Well home grown managers at EY are usually 5 years in? Another data point: I was in industry for 2 years (internal consulting, supply chain solutions) before going to EY for 3. So total experience is actually 7 years at this point.
Question is can you sell. The skill set needed to be successful as a senior vs a manager are quite different. What is your current salary now?
Stfu @m1. @op, yes
Current base: $135k All in: $155k
*?
OP sorry to ruin the party but chances are you won’t cut it. Firms will look for hard 6-7 years proper consulting experience. Sure they take and like industry experience but they in general have a lot more years. Either way I’d say shoot for the stars and try to convince them for manager. Better try and fail than not try at all.
Well, the bank I'm at has a trajectory of (Manager -VP-SVP-MD). My base is $135k. Don't MBA seniors make $145k or something? Senior at $140k shouldn't be hard to get, no?
