Lol!! My husband is white and my kids listen to allllllll types of music. We don’t censor for language and my kids are only 2 and 4. We just explain to them that music is a form of self expression and not to sing or repeat the bad words outside of our home. My 4 year old loves Blue Faces by Mike Sherm 🤷🏽♀️. If they ask me questions about the lyrics we have a conversation about it and that can be a teachable moment - she’s singing about chasing a man- never do that got it? Now hit that high note baby Lol.
The song is about a guy leaving her and she is saying he will come back, they are meant to be together.
I can't believe this is the type of music i like. No wonder I was once ghosted for few months and then i got back together with the guy when he contacted me.
Today i decided i will keep my music to myself (it's too late for me, i love this type of music). My kids however can listen to their dad's music, lol.
Have you thought about how our music influenced us, and our kids?

Yep that’s why I monitor what I listen to now most people don’t even see how the music they listen to keep them under a certain influence or mood plus in black culture we esteem musicians so highly, people probably can separate the art from the artist
I love all kinds of music. I have favorites in each genre. I took my son to his first concert when he was 10. The band was The Who.
Used to fuss at him because he wanted to listen to to Dru Hll. I would say “that’s not rap, put on the Wu”.
now as adult he listens to almost everything sans country.
I think it’s important to expose kids however we can.
And yes, a lot of the songs we were listening to were incredibly problematic. But so are some of the songs of today
