Highly depends on the brand, I’d say. Do they serve multiple brands? Or markets? Do they produce everything in house, or work with agencies?
I’ve been agency side my entire career, but have interviewed a lot on brand side lately and find that it varies highly. Within some companies you’re just an advisory party, in other you are the localisation or post-producer, some places you do everything up until post to hand off raw materials to market, and in some you work as an in-house agency for either the global or local teams, or a combination of some or all of the above.
I think the best thing to do is to figure out how you want to work, and ask questions during the interview process to see if the day-to-day matches with what you want to do.
Salary and benefits really vary. I'm currently tech in-house after working production-side only, and it's a mixed bag. Schedules and funding are generous, but they need to be because the politics are fucking nuts and drag everything out.
At a production house, the thing I needed to worry about is how, with a little bit of why -- how to make something rad for the buget and time we had, why this tech approach or aesthetic or whatever. In-house, I spend the majority of my time and energy arguing the why -- why something (a brief, a project, whatever) should exist -- and I spend very little time on the how, which makes me sad.
