In the same position
Lol you are me
It’s very tricky
where do you live
I understand your concern, that’s why I usually apply for jobs that I wouldn’t take and only use the interview as an opportunity to hone my interview answers and comfortability.
It’s common practice to talk to recruiters who reach out and take interviews even if you’re happy w where you are, it certainly doesn’t mean that you have to make the jump or leave your current job until you’re ready.
Was in the same position but nearing 2 years. Make the jump if you find an agency that feels right - you’ll most likely be compensated more than receiving an internal promotion
A lot of resignations take teams by surprise. I think in your situation, they’ll understand because they know you want to grow faster than they’re able to give you at the moment. Wanting professional growth is something everyone can understand and will respect you for.
If you’re in a major market like chicago, LA or NYC, move agencies. Even a internal promotion at your level will net you a small raise.

100% - I’m in a position to be an AE now/soon so definitely only going to look for an AE role
Also concerned about leaving a safe job / client and moving to new and then being the first one to go if there’s another wave of COVID furloughs/layoffs
This is very helpful - thank you! Hopefully I can get the honest picture by asking that
