M1 considering leaving to become CFO of a boutique law firm (10~ employees). Comp is a 40% bump from base. Has anyone else pursued anything similar? Want to ensure I'm considering any potential downsides before accepting.

Bro 40% bump in his marker, can’t see any downsides outweighing that lol

Tough to pass on a 40% pay bump, but things to pay attention to IMO:
- what are your colleagues like? Want to ensure you like / trust / respect them else you’re going to be miserable in a much smaller environment
- financial stability / security of the company? Any liquidity issues? Don’t wanna be stuck in a failing business
- is the experience going to be broadly useful to your career aspirations? Don’t wanna pigeonhole yourself or “waste” your time if you have certain career goals

Otherwise good luck and enjoy that $$$

Thank you, definitely things I'm keeping in mind. Appreciate the thoughtful response

Honestly it will probably suck big time, but for 40% it's worth a shot.

Hahah I'm a little nervous no big obvious downsides 😅

It's a new position, but the attorneys said they typically are 40-45 hours and would expect same on my end.

Curious - what would your day to day look like?

Sounds like it'd be tough to make a move if you end up not liking it or wanting to do something else. There aren't thousands of law firms looking for cfo out theee

I’m currently a Grade 11 at Cisco. With the recent pay structure changes my annual comp will be $150k + 12% bonus. I live in a large metro area in the middle of the US. I’m looking to move around the company so that I can make commission but I don’t want to be an account manager. Can anyone tell me if there are Customer Success Managers, etc positions that manage customers post sale and have a similar range base as me with commission plans? I’m just trying to understand income potential.
